The university drama club performed a stage play in Hindi titled, “Madandhta,” at the Ansari Auditorium on Thursday, Dec. 23, 2010.
The play was in relation to Mahabharata, the mythological epic battle between the forces of the Pandavas and the Kauravas.
According to the program leaflet, the Mahabharata lasted 18 days, after which nobody knows what happened, and one is left wondering how the story must have developed further. This is, however, where the play begins.
The creator and director of the play, Shakeel Ahmad Khan, portrays a fictional “19th day” of the Mahabharata.
As the play begins, you see Duryodhan debating Yudhisthir on the outcome of the war and trying to make Yudhisthir realize that his pride on his role in the war is a bit overweening, which Duryodhan in the end does realize.
Later in the play, you see Mata Gandhari hold Lord Krishna responsible for the war and blood shed, which makes her curse him. However, Krishna clarifies his position and absolves himself of blame in the eyes of a repentant Mata Gandhari. The End.
