Jamia’s Aman Caravan Cycle Rally to Return on March 8th

The Aman Caravan Cycle Rally consisting of 19 students and 7 members of the university was flagged off on 28 February 2011 after the Beating Retreat Ceremony at the Swarn Jayanti Gate, Wagah Border. DIG Amritsar Border Range, Mr. Sanjiv Bhanot, IPS flagged off the rally. Earlier the students witnessed the impressive Beating Retreat Ceremony and interacted with the BSF personnel posted at the venue. The students were highly enthused and motivated to take part in an event of this nature and magnitude.

On their way the students stop at various road side dhabas and other market places to interact with local residents on Peace and Universal Brotherhood.

Earlier, the students paid obeisance at the Golden Temple and Jalianwala Bagh, Amritsar before starting off for Wagah Border.

The students shall pass through several historical, cultural and religious landmarks on their journey towards Delhi. Starting from Amritsar on to Jullundur, Ludhiana, Sirhind Fatehabad, Karnal, Panipat and Rai, the Rally shall reach Delhi on 08 March 2011 after covering approximately 550 Kms on the Grand Trunk Road.

The theme of the Rally this year is ‘Peace and Universal Brotherhood’. The team would be led by Prof Zubair Meenai and Mr Q Wahidi.

On their arrival, the rally is expected to be received on 08 March 2011 by the Commissioner of Police, Delhi, Mr B K Gupta, IPS, Mr Sandeep Dixit, Member of Parliament, Mr Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi, former Captain of Indian Cricket Team and Mr Zafar Iqbal, Olympian.

Last year too, Jamia Millia Islamia had organized such a Cycle Rally – “Dilon Ko Jodo” for peace and pluralism which had covered 442 kms. The rally last year started from Lord Brahma’s Temple in Pushkar on February 6, 2010, paying homage at the tombs of Sufi Saint Khwaja Moinuddin Chisti at Ajmer, via Jaipur, and finally reached Jamia Millia Islamia on the 16th February, 2010.
