Movie Review: Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara (Rating 4/5)

Director: Zoya Akhtar
Producer: Farhan Akhtar
Starring: Hrithik Roshan, Farhan Akhtar, Abhay Deol, Katrina Kaif and Kalki Koechlin.
Jamia Journal Rating: * * * * (4/5)
Verdict: A must-watch!

“Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara” follows a tone of fun throughout the movie. It revolves around three male protagonists seeking a break from the confines of their proverbial boxes. It’s basically a boys road trip, or I should say a “bachelor’s” road trip through Spain.

It gives you a touching and heartfelt message on why we should live each and every moment of our lives following our hearts. Though this movie took too long to reach its end, still the story never goes boring or monotonous for a minute.

What makes “Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara” a treat to watch is the performance by the actors in the lead role. Farhan Akhter’s performance requires a special mention here because he is incredible!

The story is easy to understand and is not at all complicated. It contains moments which make you feel that it is somehow related to you and has a familiar feel to it.

The movie showcased three challenges to test their courage and overcome their phobias. These challenges allowed them to experience different adventures, sometimes by discovering the joys of scuba diving, sky diving or by running with the bulls.

The story keeps us engaged throughout. It is a combination of thrills, emotions, bonding and romance.

It includes some lovely and soulful musical tracks. My personal favorite is “Senorita” which also has a few lines in Spanish, other than Hindi. In this particular song Hrithik and Abhay have, for the very first time, lend their voices as playback singers. Farhan too lends his voice but we have already heard him sing earlier in his debut movie “Rock On.”

The trip to Spain is not just a trip. It is a turning point in each character’s life. There’s Kabir, whose family owns a construction company; then there’s Arjun, a stockbroker who lives in London; and then there’s Imran, a copywriter who is a poet in his spare time. So that’s Abhay Deol, Hrithik Roshan and Farhan Akhtar respectively.

Katrina comes in as a scuba diving instructor, and in the process, falls in love with Hrithik. She also helps him by recovering from his sadness.

Hrithik looked very handsome and did complete justice to his character.

Farhan is impish and is perfectly capable of reading out his father’s poetry with outstanding acting skills.

Abhay plays a rich brat who has been betrothed to one of his family friend, Kalki Koechlin, who too gives a perfect performance of a spoilt brat.

Overall the movie is gentle and lovely. It is a must-watch in this lifetime because, “Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara.”

  3. I agree with the author.
Farhan Akhtar was the main attraction throughout the movie. He kept the mood of the movie light. His character was the most lively of the lot, playing pranks and cracking jokes; and Farhan played it to perfection.
