Jamia to Confer an Honorary Doctorate on Amartya Sen on Friday

According to a report in The Hindu titled “Jamia to honor Amartya Sen,” dated Dec. 14, 2011: Jamia Millia Islamia is going to confer an honorary doctorate  on the Nobel Laureate, Amartya Sen, on Friday, Dec. 16, in a special convocation ceremony.

Reportedly, the University wanted to award the doctorate at its annual convocation last month; however, Dr. Sen was unavailable at the time.

Dr. Sen won a Nobel prize in the field of Economics in 1998.

He was awarded the prize for his contributions to welfare economics.

According to a press release by Jamia, Jamia Millia Islamia will hold a ‘Special Convocation’ on December 16, 2011 at 3 PM in Dr. M.A. Ansari Auditorium.

Attendance for the event is by invitation only.
