Dept. of Commerce and Business Studies Organizes a Workshop on Entrepreneurship

In collaboration with the National Entrepreneurship Network, the department of commerce and business studies, organized a workshop titled, “Making of an Entrepreneur” on Thursday, February 16, 2012 in the seminar room, department of social work.

Mr. Rajiv Kumar, Chief Executive Officer of the RockeTalk Inc. was invited to the event to address the students. He narrated to them the story of his own success as an entrepreneur.

Mr. Rajiv founded RockeTalk in 2005 and prior to that he started a venture called Widcomm and was the co founder of Uniden’s San Diego research and development center too.

RockeTalk is a leading mobile social network of India and abroad. There are millions of mobile users across the globe that avail RockeTalk’s unique voice and video enabled interactive features to communicate with friends, family and new acquaintances.

Mr. Rajiv shared his experiences as an entrepreneur and the challenges he faced throughout his career. He was candid in quoting the different phases of his life as a professional engineer and a businessman. He also suggested the approaches one should opt to become an entrepreneur.

In reply to a question, Mr. Rajiv said, “To become a successful entrepreneur you need to be passionate about one thing and that has to be necessarily one. You cannot be passionate about two things. You should be open to listen to the opinions from number of people but choose the one you believe to be viable and which suits your idea.”

Ms. Kalpana Sinha, Senior Consultant, National Entrepreneurship Network and Dr. Naseeb Ahmad, Assistant Professor, department of commerce and business studies were also present at the workshop.

Ms Sinha read an inspirational pledge to become and support entrepreneurs and entrepreneurship in India which was repeated after her by all the attendees.

The event was organized to promote and create awareness among the students about the initiative taken by the department of commerce and business studies to establish an Entrepreneur Cell (e-cell) in the university. The department under the aegis of National Entrepreneurship Network is trying to build up a students’ represented body to encourage reckoned young entrepreneurs in the university to put together the innovative ideas into a viable business unit and start a new venture.

“It was indeed an inspirational speech delivered by Mr. Rajiv Kumar. I feel honored to listen to a person who has contributed so much in the mobile phone technology. I thank the organizers for inviting him to our university and congratulate them for making such a motivating event happen”, said Mr. Shujaat Naeem Azmi, a final year graduate student in the department of commerce and business studies.

Dr. Naseeb Ahmad urged students of the department to initiate in organizing such an event on a regular basis and pledged his support and guidance for the purpose.
