Faculty of Education Holds Annual Athletic Meet

The Faculty of Education organized its Annual Athletic Meet from 4th to 21st March 2013, at the Teachers Training Institute (TTI) ground, JMI. The Meet involved Inter-House and individual sports events, which is part of the teachers’ training program.

Students of B. Ed and ETE courses under the faculty of Education are divided into Houses, named after prominent social and Educational figures: Zakir, Nehru, Ansari, Sayyadain, Gandhi, Ajmal, Azad and Mujeeb House.  Each House is assigned two House Advisors who are members of the faculty. These Houses compete against each other at various co-curricular events and at the NSS camp.

The inter-house competitions included games such as Handy-footy, which is a mash-up of football and handball, Dodge ball, Cricket, Tug-of-War, Ball pass relay and Relay races. The individual events on the other hand included Sack Race, Obstacle Race, Chatti Race (participants carry earthen pots on their heads and race), Shot-put, Long Jump, High Jump, Women’s 100-meters race, Women’s 400-meter race, Men’s 1500-meter race, Women’s Skipping, Women’s Cricket ball throw, Men’s Medicine ball throw.

The event was graced by the presence of Mrs. Ameena Jung, Vice-Chancellor Najeeb Jung’s wife, who was the Chief Guest on the final day of the Meet on 21st March. Mrs. Jung has been a University level basketball player with a keen interest in sports. Mrs. Jung gave away prizes to the winners. The award for Best Athlete (male) was won by Md. Rizwan Khan of B. Ed., and Best Athlete (female) award went to Aisha of B. Ed. Zakir House was adjudged to be the Best house followed by Gandhi House.

The Faculty of Education, in keeping with the spirit of equal opportunity for all, organized the inter-house sports events with both boys and girls participating together in the same events. Since sports in part of the curriculum students get marks for participation. Aisha, the Best Athlete (female) walked away with 13 marks, and three medals.

As per custom, teachers played a game of Tug-of-War at the end of the meet.
