Jamia Idol 2013: Meri Awaaz Suno

Jamia Old Boys Association (JOBA) organized a singing competition called, “Jamia Idol: Meri Awaaz Suno, Ek Nai Awaaz Ki Khoj,” at the Ansari Auditorium, on Tuesday, April 2, 2013.

According to JOBA Secretary, Arshad Siddiqui, 78 contestants auditioned for it on Monday, April 1st, out of which 24 were selected to compete in the Grand Finale the next day on Tuesday. The competition was not limited to Jamia students, and therefore many students from other universities also took part in the contest.  Out of the 24 selected, 14 were of Jamia Millia Islamia, the rest were from several other universities.

At the end of the evening, three best singers were selected and declared winners. Mansi Khanna of Jamia Millia Islamia was declared to be the second runner-up; Sonu of Rohilkhand University was declared to be first runner-up, and Mohammad Rizwan of Jamia Hamdard was declared the winner of Jamia Idol 2013.

The competition was judged by Syed Mohammad Kazim, a singer, Jamia alumnus, and a teacher at Jamia Senior Secondary School; and Pandit Chanchal Sharma, a music teacher at a music academy in New Delhi.

The Guest of Honor for the evening was Mansi, who is a playback singer and has also been a runner-up on the musical TV show “Sa Re Ga Ma.”

Speaking to Jamia Journal, JOBA Secretary, Arshad Siddiqui said that such an event has been organized only a few times in JOBA’s history, and the last one was held many years ago. He also expressed his satisfaction and happiness with the overall success of the contest.
