ICICI Trinity Programme on Innovation and Entrepreneurship Launched at Jamia

The University Placement Cell and Entrepreneurship Club of Jamia Millia Islamia organized a Launch Ceremony of ICICI Trinity Programme on Innovation and Entrepreneurship on Thursday, April 4, 2013 at FTK-Centre for Information Technology.

About ICICI Trinity Programme:

This programme seeks to identify ideas, evaluate, groom, nurture and help turn them into successful business ventures. Apart from funding, the programme provides an opportunity for the students to meet, interact and learn from industry veterans, thereby making it a rewarding and enriching experience. Jamia Millia Islamia has signed an MoU with ICICI bank for this programme.

ICICI Trinity is a platform for young minds to innovate in the field of banking, financial services & insurance to leverage the innovation potential of the students in the university and foster entrepreneurship. The programme consists of three main stages – Ideate, Prototype & Be an Entrepreneur.

During the first phase of the programme in 2012, ICICI bank had partnered with IIT Delhi, Delhi Technological University, IIIT Hyderabad, College of Engineering Pune, Thapar University Patiala, VJTI Mumbai, PEC Punjab, HBTI Kanpur.

Some of the key highlights from last year’s programme are:

– 400 students from 10 premier engineering institutes participated

– As many as 9 ideas selected for prototype development from 100 concepts

– 9 teams got `50,000 cash prize after the Idea Presentation Round

– The jury included industry veterans from organisations like DST, CDAC, CIIE-IIMA & the leadership team of ICICI Group

– Active mentoring by ICICI senior executives.

Teams who showcase successful prototypes shall be given a cash award of up to Rs. 2,500,000 and will be invited to present to the Bank’s investor panel in the Entrepreneurship stage. If selected, they will be facilitated by the Bank towards setting up their own venture.

ICICI bank will launch this programme at Jamia to foster the spirit of innovation and encourage entrepreneurship among students.

The Launch Ceremony:

The event began with the recitation of the verses from The Holy Quran by Hafiz Abuzar Zaman Khan a 2nd year undergraduate student of Department of Commerce & Business Studies. Miss Fabeha Amin Qureshi, a post-graduate student from the same department, was the anchor for the programme.

Prof. Rihan Khan Suri, Placement and Training Officer at Jamia Millia Islamia presented the welcome address. In his speech Prof. Suri appreciated the association of the ICICI TRINITY programme with Jamia and said this will provide a platform to those students who want to do something distinctive. He said Entrepreneurship is a state of mind where you strive to think out of text books. He congratulated the teacher and student placement coordinators for the same. He advised the students to participate in the Trinity programme.

Prof. Tasneem Meenai, Dean Students Welfare, was present as Chief Guest; she formally launched the programme by lighting the ceremonial lamp. Prof. Meenai said that she never imaghine that the youngest club of the cultural committee of Jamia Millia Islamia, that is the Entrepreneurship Club (E-Club) would mature so early. She acknowledged the work of Dr. Naseeb Ahmad who is the convener of E-Club. She also appreciated the ICICI Trinity programme and was glad to launch it in JMI.

The ICICI representative Mr. Akshay Chaturvedi interacted with the students and presented slide shows of the Trinity programme. Mr. Rajiv Panthri from ICICI bank hosted the Question Answer session and clarified the queries of students. Later students were asked some questions and were given T-shirts.

The Faculty members and Teacher Placement Coordinators from various Departments were also present at the event.

The Vote of Thanks was given by Dr. Naseeb Ahmad. He thanked the representatives from ICICI and also the Faculty Members from JMI. He extended his gratitude to the audience and volunteers for making the event a success.
