Jamia Celebrates its 94th Foundation Day

Dr. Karan Singh, Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha) applauded Jamia Millia Islamia for carrying forward the vision of its founding fathers by committing itself to the promotion of education informed by a healthy balance of traditional and modern ethos. Singling out some academic centres for commendation, he observed that they address the challenges of the contemporary world that was marked by strife and discord of multiple kinds.

Delivering the key-note address on the occasion of the 94th Foundation Day of Jamia Millia Islamia, Dr. Singh, a globally renowned scholar and educationist, counseled the students to develop their body, mind, emotion and spirituality. For a healthy body, he felt, that it was imperative to say a big ‘NO’ to alcohol and drugs and our mind which is exposed to tsunami of knowledge today, needs to be developed by distilling knowledge into wisdom. Our mind, he felt, should be receptive to assimilation of knowledge and should inculcate the habit of continuous interrogation. Both body and mind needed the support of positive emotions oriented to the development of society, nation and the world. He remarked that it was imperative to develop spiritual pursuit that alone could give internal illumination to move forward to realize the destiny of human kind.
