The three-day Inter-University Cultural Festival “MIRAAS 2014” was formally inaugurated by Prof. S.M. Sajid, Vice-Chancellor, Jamia Millia Islamia on February 24, 2014.
Mrs. Shanta Sarabjeet Singh was the Chief Guest of the Inaugural Function of “MiRAAS 2014”
The event began with a recitation from the Holy Quran by Nasir Ahmed, followed by its translation by Wafia Kissa who also compeered the entire event.
This was followed by screening of a movie created by Khalid Yusufzai, which had glimpses of MiRAAS-2013 and clips of interviews of present Vice-Chancellor, Prof. SM. Sajid, and former Vice-Chancellor, Mr. Najeeb Jung.
Prof. S.M. Sajid, Vice-Chancellor, Jamia Millia Islamia and Mrs. Shanta Sarabjeet Singh, Chief Guest of the programme were presented mementoes by Jai Karan Singh and Ali Khan respectively. Ammar Khan and Prateek Sharma presented brochures to the dignitaries for the formal inauguration.
Prof. Tasneem Meenai, Dean of Students Welfare, Jamia Millia Islamia welcomed the distinguished guests and gathering.
Prof. S.M. Sajid, Vice-Chancellor spoke of the founding days of the university and also bestowed his best wishes to Jamia Millia Islamia for making MiRAAS an international inter-university festival by 2020.
Mrs. Shanta Sarabjeet Singh, Chief Guest addressed the gathering next. She spoke about the need to preserve and hold on to our culture stating that culture is the essence of humanity. The program concluded with vote of thanks by Wafia Kissa.
The cultural programmes organized yesterday included Indian Vocal (Solo), Business Idea Competition, Poetry Composition & Recitation (in Urdu, Hindi, and English), Indian Vocal Group (Case Study Competition), Western Vocal (Solo & Group).
The three-day Cultural Festival “MiRAAS-2014” shall conclude with the Valedictory & Prize Distribution Function on February 26, 2014 at 5 PM in Dr. M.A. Ansari Auditorium, Jamia Millia Islamia.
