The second seminar course on “State-Rebuilding in Afghanistan” offered by the Afghanistan Studies Centre, Academy of International Studies (AIS), Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) concluded with a certificate distribution programme held at the Conference Hall of AIS, JMI on Tuesday 6 May 2014.
About a dozen students from Department of Political Science, Nelson Mandela Centre for Peace and Conflict Resolution and Academy of International Studies completed the course that covered different aspects of Afghanistan’s continuing conflict, culture, development, economy, history, politics, security provisions and state rebuilding initiatives.
Students expressed happiness over completion of the course. They also expressed their gratitude to Professor Dr. Rani D. Mullen who taught the two months-long seminar course that included lectures, discussions and talks by experts on Afghanistan. Some films like “Charlie Wilson’s War”, “Search for Freedom”, etc were also screened.
Dr Rani D. Mullen is Associate Professor of Government at the College of William and Mary, Virginia, USA and a Senior Fulbright-Nehru Scholar.
T.A.C. Rangachari, Director of AIS, Prof. Ajay Darshan Behera, Dr Mathew Joseph C, Dr K. N. Tennyson, and Dr Angira Sen Sharma were present at the certificate distribution programme. Prof. AD Behera gave his word of thanks to Prof. Mullen who left for the United States during the intervening night of 6-7 May.
It should be noted that the first batch of students had successfully completed the seminar course on 14th October, 2013 and were awarded certificates thereafter.
With the second batch of postgraduate students completing the course, it is expected that interest will be growing further in the area of study and research on Afghanistan.
