The 2nd Edition of the International Summer School (ISS) was inaugurated in Jamia Millia Islamia on 15th June, 2014. This International Summer School organized by Jamia under the aegis of the Ministry of Tourism’s acclaimed Incredible India campaign will offer intensive learning modules in respect of contemporary India. Aimed at promoting international goodwill and cultural understanding by bringing together students from all over the world, the ISS will acquaint them about India and its role in the 21st Century. Around 24 students from countries such as Bhutan, Turkey, Nepal, Fiji, USA, Nigeria, Germany, Yemen, Japan, Iraq and Indonesia along with students from different parts of India are attending the summer school.
The ISS has an India-centric syllabus to promote students’ understanding of India only to be corroborated by experiential learning. The academic modules spread over 4 weeks to be conducted by the faculty of Jamia would cover areas like Indian Politics, Indian Economy, Indian Sociology and Indian History. In addition, the two-week fieldwork module will give them a first-hand feel of India.
Horizontal linkages have been identified across the modules to enable a trans-disciplinary learning.
The assessment of the course modules will be done through a literature review and a short research paper to be produced individually. At the end of the programme, participating students will be evaluated for the knowledge gained through the modules and a weightage equivalent to 45 hours will be awarded in terms of academic credit. The ISS has partnered with the NGOs, Ritinjali and 5waraj for the field work module in Delhi, UP and Rajasthan.
The Coordinator of the Programme, Professor Nisar-ul-Haq conducted the Orientation Programme for the participating students in association with Mr. Amjad Ali Khan, Executive Director, ISS.
