Jamia Millia Islamia in collaboration with the Ministry of Earth Sciences, Government of India organized the 6th Meeting of the Project Appraisal and Monitoring Committee (PAMC) November 19 & 20, 2014 to look into new proposals related to Geosciences.
The meet which saw the coming together of India’s finest Geologists and Earth Scientists considered new science proposals, examined deliverables and deliberated on the justification of the instruments requested and also created a roadmap of their use after the project got over.
The meet was chaired by Mr. A.K. Singhvi, Chairman, PAMC. Prof. Talat Ahmad, Dr. Y.J. Bhaskar Rao, Dr. Sumer Chopra, Prof. Ashok Sahni, Dr. Hema Achyuthan, Prof. Somnath Das Gupta, Dr. R.N. Singh, Dr. Pradeep Srivastava, Dr. O.P. Mishra, Dr. R.P. Gupta and Dr. Malay Mukul were present as Members.
The Committee looked into a host of proposals related to Geosciences such as Natural Resources of Karnataka, Minerals associated with Deccan Continental Flood Basalts, Isotopic Compositions of Carbonate, High Salinity in Groundwater, Shale Gas Potentiality in Permian Coal-Bearing, Climate Changes and Dietary Shifts in Siwalik and Narmada Valley Herbivorous Mammals, Aquifer Mapping, Philately in Earth Science, Geomorphological and Structural Lineament Analysis, Groundwater Contamination.
The Committee also reviewed completed pilot projects sponsored by the Ministry of Earth Sciences. Prof. Talat Ahmad, Vice-Chancellor, Jamia Millia Islamia a leading Earth Scientist, has a roadmap to set-up a Department of Earth Sciences in Jamia Millia Islamia in the near future. This scientific meet will go a long way in foregrounding Jamia in the field of Earth Sciences.
