SIO launched ‘Save the Internet’ Campaign in Jamia Millia Islamia, Delhi on Saturday, 18th April 2015.
National President of the Students’ Islamic Organisation of India (SIO), Iqbal Hussain said that Net Neutrality – the principle that all data should be treated equally on the Internet, is something that we should not compromise on. He called the attempts to thwart Net Neutrality a “grave threat to the Internet”.
The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has sought opinion from common netizens on Net Neutrality. TRAI plans to allow Telecom companies to regulate over-the-top (OTT) services such as WhatsApp, Skype, Viber etc.
He said that an open and free Internet is essential for healthy growth of the country’s economy in today’s digital era. He raised serious concerns on the “Corporatization of the Internet”. He said that the Teleco’s business is just to provide fair and neutral Internet and not censor its usage.
He urged the student community to send in letters to TRAI advocating Net Neutrality to [email protected].
