Fenestration 2016: Faculty of Architecture Annual Festival

The Subject Association, Department of Architecture, Jamia Millia Islamia, celebrated its Annual Fest, Fenestration, from 3rd to 5th  March, 2016. The first day of the fest was celebrated as the “Habib Rahman Memorial lecture series”, Habib Rehman being one of the great visionaries of India who laid the foundation of the architectural vocabulary of independent India, by playing a pivotal role in shaping the modern architecture of Delhi. It was a proud moment for the whole university as Prof. S.M. Akhtar, Dean, Faculty of Architecture & Ekistics, launched his new book, titled “Habib Rahman – The Architect of Independence India”. The students heard Ar. Revathi Kamath, Ar. Neeraj Manchanda, Ar. Amit Gupta and other prominent architects of India talk about their work and ideologies, thus gaining a lot of practical knowledge and advice.

The students were enthralled by a surprise visit by RJ Naved of Radio Mirchi, an alumni of Jamia, as he cracked jokes and shared his experiences as a student in the university.

The three day fest comprised of a multitude of events, including various sports matches, on-the-spot competitions, LAN gaming, a photography competition and a karaoke night, and saw active participation from students of all years. A whole floor of the college was dedicated to  an exhibition of students’ work and the various awards and accolades won by the college.

The celebration ended on 5th March, with the cultural night which saw amazing dance and music performances by the students who had been preparing for over a month for the same. The movie screenings helped students put their creative skills to good use and display their talent in front of the fraternity. As the night came to end, all were left spell-bound as they left dancing to the tunes of popular student band Jazba-e-Junoon. All in all, Fenestration-2016 was a super successful event, leaving people asking for more!
