In August 2010, under the instructions of the University Grant Commission (UGC), Jamia Millia Islamia, along with other universities, instituted a semester system in many of their postgraduate programs. The semester system replaced the old annual system.
Although the examination for the first semester was conducted back in December and the second semester has already started — the results for it are still awaited.
Since the university’s academic system is in a phase of transition, there are many parts of the system the administration is figuring out as they go along.
One such part seems to be examinations, which are conducted by the Office of the Controller of Examinations (OCE).
Exam results were expected to be out before the start of a new semester in January. However, as mentioned earlier, the results are yet to be declared, even though the second semester has already begun.
But what makes the situation odd, is the fact that apparently nobody knows exactly when they will be out; Not even the OCE.
In an attempt to find out when the results will be announced, I first tried to approach the Controller’s office, where I was told to contact Jamia’s media coordinator Simi Malhotra for the information I required.
On contacting the media office, I was informed by Adeel Mehdi, the acting media coordinator, that the people at the OCE are not exactly sure when the results will be announced, but they do say that it will be out before the end of this month.
However, he added, the OCE will know exactly when the results will be declared by next week, Monday. So if I were to get an exact date, I’d have to check back on Monday.
