University Counseling & Guidance Centre, Jamia Millia Islamia, organized a workshop on “Stress Management” conducted by the Youth Enrichment Services (YES) and PsyIndia Foundation on Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2011.
The workshop was conducted by Dr. Dherandra Kumar, clinical psychologist, PsyIndia and a guest faculty with the department of psychology, Jamia Millia Islamia. The workshop was attended by students and teachers from different departments.
The workshop dealt with the issue of growing stress in our day-to-day life and instructed on ways and measures to combat this problem.
Stress causing factors like, physiological, mental, emotional and behavioral were discussed which was followed by methods to deal with them. The audience was quite active in the workshop with their own observations and examples, making the workshop more lively.
“We can’t avoid stress, but can surely manage it” Kumar told the audience. He discussed the power of imagery and the effect it can create to soothe one’s stress. In the final part, in an effort to show the effect of imagery, he asked the audience to close their eyes and set themselves in a comfortable position. He then hypnotized the audience, and provided a peaceful session while provoking imagery of nature and objects having a calming effect.
The session ended with a question and answer round, where Kumar took queries from the audience, and provided them with appropriate solutions.
