The National Commission for Minority Educational Institutions (NCMEI) on 22 February 2011 granted “Minority Institution” status to Jamia Millia Islamia under Article 30(1) of the constitution read with Section 2(G) of the National Commission for Minorities Institutions Act.
The University will make a study of the judgment in the coming days and work out the modalities of its implementation.
The Vice Chancellor of Jamia Millia Islamia Mr. Najeeb Jung says, “The judgment does not in any way change the essential character of Jamia. The University has always had a commitment to national goals of social justice and secular ideals. The University will continue to uphold these in the future too.”
