Director of South Asia for Human Rights Watch Speaks at Dept. of Pol. Sci.

Human Rights Forum, Department of Political Science organized a lecture on the topic “Conflicts and Rights in South Asia” by Meenakshi Ganguly on Thursday, Oct. 20, 2011.

Ms. Ganguly is the South Asia Director for the eminent human rights organization, Human Rights Watch.

Speaking about Human Rights Watch, Ms. Ganguly said, “Human Rights Watch operates in about 90 countries. It is one of the leading independent human rights organizations dedicated to defending and protecting human rights around the world.”

She further asserted the need for credible human rights documentation and the adoption of legalistic perspective to deem a particular event as a possible human rights violation.

The organization also uses advocacy to enlist the public and international community to support the cause of human rights for all.

Ms. Ganguly also discussed the Sri Lanakan and Kashmir conflict briefly.
