On Wednesday afternoon, Dec. 19, while the national media was busy covering protests at India Gate and not paying attention to other news of national interest, Jamia pulled off a miracle in event management. Jamia managed to pull off a feat so impossible that it defied imagination.
According to an official Jamia press release dated Dec. 18, Jamia’s new medical health center building near the faculty of dentistry building was to be inaugurated on Wednesday, Dec. 19 at 4 pm in the afternoon.
However, the event began around 3 pm and concluded around 3:45 pm — 15-minutes before the event was scheduled to start.
As someone who has been covering Jamia events for the past two years, I can testify that something so remarkable has never happened before during my stay at Jamia.
As anybody at Jamia knows, Jamia events customarily start late. It is nothing out of the usual if an event begins half an hour past its scheduled time. However, it is a surprise if it begins on time, which on some rare occasions does happen. But what is beyond anybody’s expectation, is that an event would end before the time it is scheduled begin.
In what can only be interpreted as a display of great humility, Jamia seems to be underplaying their big achievement for they have yet to release a formal statement announcing their record setting feat.
Since the timings of the event is bigger news than the event itself, details of the inauguration are too trivial to report on, thus it will not be.
