The Department of Psychology, Jamia Millia Islamia organised a series of events to mark the International Mental Health Day on campus, Thursday, Oct. 10, 2013.
The students and staff of the Department took out a rally in the campus to propagate the idea of mental health and also performed street plays on the issue. Dr Sheema Aleem, the Advisor to the Subject Association said that the rally and the street plays were organised to remove the stigma attached to mental health issues. She urged people to be supportive of those who suffer from mental health issues. The rally was led by Prof Naved Iqbal, Head, Department of Psychology. Dr Iqbal said that the Department would strive to organise more such public events in the future also.
The rally started from the Department of Psychology and went all the way to the Proctor’s Office, from where it took a U-turn and then entered the premises of Dr. M. A. Ansari auditorium, and from there walked all the way through the Faculty of Humanities and Languages, concluding it at Faculty of Social Sciences near the Central Canteen.
After the rally, the students performed a street play in front of the Central Canteen which was appreciated by the audience very much.
